2015 short shots

Welcome to "SHORT SHOTS". Here are some of the happenings from around the club.

  1. Ladies “Give Golf a Go” lessons are set to commence again in October. Please contact Jenny Schaeffer to register your interest This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  2. Carl Naake recently finished 9th at the State Sand Green Championship held at the Northam GC.
  3. Course care; Members please remember to fill in your divots. There are sand bins on all par 3’s to refill your sand buckets.
  4. Course care; members please fix your own pitch marks and take the time while waiting to putt to fix another.
  5. Course care; if you hit from the grass on the practice range please take a sand bucket and repair your divots. There is a sand bin at the ball shed.
  6. Course toilets are very near to completion.
  7. The Club’s Match Play championship is continuing, Joshua Fewkes defeated Keiron Shave on the 21st hole in their men’s semi-final match. Tom Hannam meets Terry Reck in the other men’s gross semi-final. This match is to be completed by August 27th. In the men’s nett final Paul Fleeton tees off against Russell Dickhart, this fixture is to be completed by the 23rd of October. In the Ladies semi-finals Sue Pippin V’s Jenny Schaeffer and Bronwen MaGee V’s Vilma Chisholm, this fixture is to be completed by August 27th.
  8. On the 16th of August Tony McSkimming (State Boys Coach) will be here in Kalgoorlie to deliver a coaching clinic for our juniors and a session with the GGC coaches. Thank you to the Department of Sport & Recreation for their support of this visit; 9.30am to 12.00pm Working with Goldfields Regional Development players and selected Juniors;
    Session to cover; Golf course strategy, Course mapping, Club selection, Impact of weather and ground conditions, Shot percentages, Shot dispersion, Green reading and putting options, Useful stat keeping.
    1.00pm to 4.30pm GRDS Coaches, Volunteers and Juniors; Golf technique preferred methods for; Full swing, Chipping/pitching, Bunkers, Putting Practice Plans; Layered practice, Pressure drills, Measured practice, The three most productive areas to improve in, Pathways.
  9. King Scrounger will be played on the white tees on October 22nd
  10. Holden Scramble Winners: Dale Honey, Brett Honey, Brendan Lydement & Ben Maher. Second: Jon Attwell, Henri Souchon, Henry Lovi & Martika Brandt. Both teams will be playing in the regional final in October, held at Lakelands Country Club.
  11. Scott Manton won the Office National Trophy. The event was reduced to 18 holes after the course received 50mm rain on the Friday and Saturday.
  12. Harlsan Trophy is to be played on the 15th & 16th of August over 36 holes of Stableford. This event provides great prizes and a number of different novelty prizes.
  13. Club Championships will be held over 3 rounds; 22nd, 23rd & 29th of August. Rounds 1 & 2 will be a timesheet, Round 3 will also be a timesheet with the exception of the top 8 in A & B grade and the top 4 in C Grade, these players will be seeded and grouped together.
  14. The new Matchplay Challenge will be held on the 5th of September, further details to be provided closer to the date, but nomination will be essential.
  15. Members; annual subscriptions were due for payment by the 31st of July, your playing rights are now suspended. Foundation members will lose their status on the 30th of September if subscriptions are not paid.
