2015 short shots


Welcome to "SHORT SHOTS". Here are some of the happenings from around the club.

  1. The GGC celebrated golf and Christmas at our Presentation Evening recently and congratulate all the winners of awards! Particularly to both Ebony Heard for Golfer of the year and David king for Club person of the year. A fantastic night was enjoyed by all who attended. On behalf of all the board we wish you a very happy Christmas and prosperous new year, we look forward to another great year of golf in 2016!
  2. Ladies 9 hole Competitions have been held for the last 3 weekend on a Sunday afternoon from 2.30pm. The aim is to have newer members introduced to the course, rules, scoring and to enjoy a drink afterwards. Attendance has varied from 10 to 6.
  3. Also joining the ladies 9 hole competition are 4 junior girls who are also gaining their handicaps and enjoying the experience of being on the course.
  4. Clubhouse update; we have submitted to the city the GGC proposal for the design and outline of the new clubhouse. This will be reviewed at our next working party meeting (8th of December).
  5. Also to be reviewed at the next working party meeting is the current issue of asbestos being found on the course. Please do not be alarmed as we are investigating with the city for a clear report for our members.
  6. The Ladies Golf Open was held on the 6th, 7th and 8th November. Fridays 4BBB stableford charity day attracted a field of 140 players. Over $1000 was raised and donated to the WA Country Health Service Goldfields Cancer Centre. The competition was reduced to 12 holes due to severe weather. Winners were Loralee Dye and Gail Anderson – 31 points. Congratulations to Liz Sullivan and Michelle Pullan (fourth) – 29 points.
  7. A capacity field of 184 ladies representing 44 clubs played 36 holes of stableford on the 7th and 8th November. Congratulations to nett winner Sharon Halley (Collier Pines) 80 points and gross winner Ebony Heard (GGC) 62 points. Congratulations also to Jenny Schaeffer – 4th nett , Julie Reed – 3rd gross and veteran nett winners Janet Kuhle, Cee Banfield and Lyn Dellar.
  8. McBride's summer cup commenced with the Par 3 competition, it was a great event, including golf and lunch.
  9. Congratulations to Connor Fewkes for winning the Rowlspec Monthly Medal for 2015. Connor also placed outright 9th in the State Junior Amateur Championships held at the Lakelands CC.
  10. The Goldfields Junior Development Squad is now in full swing. The Junior Tier are working on practice assignments each Wednesday and playing 5 holes of matchplay on Friday evening.
  11. The Development Tier are receiving extra coaching on Friday evenings, these are selected children who are being prepared for on course competition.
  12. Sunday mornings from 7.30am the PeeWees have been playing holes 15 thru 18 from the tiger tees.
  13. Cook your Own BBQ’s are scheduled for Friday Night the 4th and 18th of December.
